Ensuring Accessibility to Eye Check-up in Hard-to-Reach Villages of Jharkhand

Cataract is one of the most common cause of visual impairment. According to World Health Organization, cataract is the leading cause of blindness all over the world, responsible for 47.8% blindness and accounting for 17.7 million blind people. In India 80% of the blindness is due to cataract. It is most common in people with old age. With growing age, the probability of getting cataract increases.

Mr. Deepak Surin

Cataract is one among the 22+ disease conditions being screened at Jivika Healthcare’s Swasthya Sawari. Cataract turns to blindness if it is not screened and treated timely. Swasthya Sawari provides screening facility for cataract in hard to reach villages that do not have eye care facilities close to their villages. 70 years old Mr Rameshwar Nayak who had blurred vision came for eye check-up at Swasthya Sawari medical camp at Nawatoli village in Gola block of Ramgarh district on 24th of November, 2022. After screening, he was diagnosed with cataract in right eye. He has been referred to the district hospital at Ramgarh for treatment

With the support of the Government of Jharkhand, Rockefeller Foundation, Give, BCG, USAID, Jhpiego and Nishtha, Jivika Healthcare is taking quality healthcare services closer to communities for improving the health indicators of hard-to-reach villages.
