Access to healthcare services is a fundamental right that ensures the well-being and quality of life for individuals and communities. However, accessing healthcare in rural areas presents unique challenges due to various factors, including geographic remoteness, limited healthcare infrastructure, and socioeconomic disparities. To address this challenge of accessibility of quality healthcare in rural areas, Jivika operates Swasthya Sawari (Mobile Health Clinics) in Jharkhand which is catering to the healthcare needs of the remotely residing hard-to-reach communities.
Examination of Mr. Ladhu’s eye in the medical camp
One of the Swasthya Sawari Mobile Medical Units operates in Palkot block of Gumla district. On 13th of June, 2023, health camp was organized in Semra village of Palkot block. During the camp, a 70 years old man, named Mr. Ladhu Nageria came with a complaint of diminished vision in left eye since three years. He was unable to go to the hospital to get his eye checked due to old age. He was unable to go to the hospital to get his eye checked due to old age.
After examination, he was diagnosed of hyper-mature cataract. He was counselled by the Medical Officer and was referred to District Hospital, Gumla for further examination and treatment.
Ensuring accessibility of healthcare services to remotely residing communities is not only saving their travel time, but is also saving the money that they would have spent in travelling. Swasthya Sawari is ensuring equity in healthcare services by serving the underserved communities.
