Inculcating Health-Seeking Behavior in Rural Areas

Health seeking behavior is one of the important determinants of health. It is important to understand the health seeking behavior of the community in order to provide basic healthcare services and to develop strategies to improve the utilization of the available services, particularly women. Lack of awareness about when to seek medical help and presence of social barriers are few reasons behind the lack of health seeking behavior among women in rural areas.

Mrs. Basu Devi at Swasthya Sawari Medical Camp

Swasthya Sawari provides screening of 20+ disease conditions with special focus on NCDs (Hypertension, Diabetes, Oral, Breast & Cervical Cancer screening). During one of our camps in Jaradih village of Gola block, we came across a 68 years old lady named Mrs. Basu Devi who came with a complaint of body pain and decreased hearing. On examination, she was diagnosed of hypertension for which she was prescribed medicine by the Doctor. For decreased hearing she was referred to District Hospital for examination and treatment.

Taking healthcare services closer to the communities and making the health services easily accessible to them is in a way making them used to access healthcare for any health needs. This in a way is helping to inculcate health seeking behavior in the beneficiaries. We are immensely grateful to our partners- Government of Jharkhand and CreditAccess India Foundation for supporting us to reach to the underserved communities and make quality healthcare services accessible to them.
